RAY NIEBEL - GREAT DAY - GREAT WAVE

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT DAY AT "THE POINT". The track was well groomed and the grass freshly cut. The sky was filled with clouds that kept the full sun away but the temperature was warm for awhile then with the help from a good breeze turned perfect. Being greeted by Keith at the main gate we could hear the Nastional Anthem being played and moved right along to a place to park. I was amazed on the small amount of riders that were there. Lots of places to park, but I would have rathered had a good walk with more riders there. Missed the start of moto 1 which was +40 A & B, but soon found my way into the middle of the field to catch the action. I found Ray Niebel in top form and having a great time riding. Waving as he went by. The Vets are awesome. They have the greatest time. You can hear them hooting and hollaring all around the track. I'm sure at the end of their motos they were needing a few moments to catch their breathes. Five laps for the Vets.... and I didn't see many pulling off before their motos were done. Mixed in with the Vets were a couple support classes that made up some of the 10 motos. David Grimes, Cody Longwell and Adam Bunting were going at it all day in the support classes. Mark Kane and Mitch Ward had a great go at it in the +30 A class with Mark Kane. Ray Niebel was out in front doing what Ray does best.... winning. A great start with Kane, Barnhart and Anthony in the +35 A had them fighting for the 1st place position. Intermission came with the gounds crew working on some needed areas and the Vets wanting more than 15 minutes to get ready for the second half. Things moved smoothly most of the day. A bad spill for vet rider Chuck Hetrick in the +50 class moto 7 made for some very tense moments of major concern. Last information on Chuck from Buddy was that he did not want to be flown out to the nearest hospital. I have not heard any more on Chucks condition.
I'm getting this on the site today Sunday when most of our riders are at Doublin Gap. Just could not make both races this weekend. I have to say here that I was so very disappointed when the scheduled came out and the Vet Nationals and our Sate race were not going to be together. This could not be right. We have always had Vets on Saturday and States on Sunday. The gathering of riders both vets and amateur riders would fill the classes on Saturday. All of the pre 25 year olds would fill the support classes to get that advantage of riding the track before Sundays racing. Many more Vets would come that were involved in both days. Just was disappointing not too have them run back to back. Many of our Vets had to make the trip to Doublin Gap to keep in the points race there. I'm hoping that next year they can get these 2 great races back together again.
Best of luck to our riders in Doublin Gap with a safe trip back home.

Labor Day finds me at home with my coffee near at hand, the rest rooms much closer and my mind and heart sitting in a field at Steel City. Stepping out of our tent with the dew as heavy as rain and the steam rising off everything around. The sound of equipment working out on the track to the sound of a distant bike warming up. I’m still there in my thoughts and will be for many days ahead. But I know that the day will be filled with unloading and cleaning up but we will be talking and going over many of the wonderful events and people that we just participated in and visited with. We always wonder how those days went by so swiftly, for we look forward to them for many days.

During the racing season we head out every weekend to our favorite race track for the on going series. That day is so filled with great racing and quick visits with wonderful old friends. This helps us get thru the work week to get us to the next Sunday meeting. When Nationals roll around they provide not only the Pros and Amateur racing they provide a time of fellowship that is more in dept than just the Sunday quick visit. It’s one BIG family reunion. Excited to see the ones that you have seen all year and ones that had come back to visit that special place and very special friends. There is time to visit and get caught up on their activities and of course the memories that we all share together.

The weekend always starts out with the friendly greeting that one receives at the gate. I’m sure that it gets stressful at times but a smile is generally right there to greet everyone. Keith and the ladies do a great job. Big John is always keeping busy making sure that all is under control. So many good people working to make the event the best that it can be.

This year a new format was in place, Friday was Pro Qualifying, pit bike racing, atv racing, wma , Saturday was the Pro National race, ATV National and the WMA, Mad Mike and his crew putting on a great show and a live band performance. The days were jam packed. One very big change for the full weekend campers was pitting on the other side of the hill. The full separation of the AMA and amateurs came to Steel City just like at High Point. I must say that I was very leery of that for my last stay on that side of the hill was not a good one and vowed never to camp out there ever again…. Just too loony for me. But no problems at all. I think with the hard effort that Racer Productions have done over the past years they have gotten the event back into the hands of the families for a great safe event. There is still the die hard partiers but much more under control.

The walk to the other side is not one that I like at all. Plus with the new part of the track, ( which is awesome) one can not cut at the bottom of the hill heading toward the grandstands. So I see getting that golf cart or mule is a must for the future in getting around. One of the great things for all of us on the one side of the hill is that we are all together in walking distant for those visits with each other.

Each day went by so quickly, watching and hoping for our local riders to get that top time space for their advancement. And the heart ache that we all felt for them in not advancing. Very happy for Ben Ritter and Stevie Roman who made the gate was a great feeling for them.

Having Amateur day on Sunday was awesome. A beautiful track for the riders to go out and experience. The first time that I can remember they rode the Pro side. I remember Aaron would make the comment every National how awesome it would be to go out after a National and ride the track. Just to get the feel of it after watching the Pros do their thing. Well our riders got to do just that yesterday. The new pro section was prepared for the riders but some things came up at riders meeting that changed that for the day. I must say that the addition of the one area made for some longer lap times for sure. With 24 moto’s at 3 to 4 laps each put a strain on a 2 moto format and daylight. But all seemed very pleased to be running the pro section, I know Aaron would have loved it.

The classes were nearly full, the Vet C class had 31 riders and the Lites B Class the most with 34 riders. I had heard from sign ups that there was near 550 riders signed up that morning. It looked like amateur days from the past. Great turn out.

Our pit area was great other than being so far from the other side. When pulling in Thursday evening Ken Moser was already set up and a large opening right beside him. Which was wonderful getting to pit with his family all weekend. Lil and McKenna came Friday morning to join Ken. (thank you Lil for the ride to the other side for morning coffee) We were also very pleased that CJ Coffield and Brittany came Friday evening for the events. Once CJ saw the new layout of the track and riders on it he was wanting so badly to get his bike and take a lap or two. I know of some riders who after seeing the track went home and returned with their bikes to ride Sunday. Wonderful company in our pits and of course all around us. Chuck Coulson we missed you, we could have used some of your great fire wood at our camp fire. Chris Raymond stopped by Saturday with a big plate of ribs and some wonderful salmon that Charles Chapman freshly caught in New York all grilled and ready to eat. Nationals are one big family get together…… WOW

Other alumni (so to speak) who returned was Ryan Coleman #92 - B Class ( I might add very fast) so good to him and his friend come and join in. He was very pleased on seeing many of his old friends from that day. Ryan is living in North Carolina and working for US Air. So good to see Ryan, lots of good racing memories there for sure.

The events went so well this weekend, a lot of preparation was made for it to be so good. I have helped out at my High School events getting ready for wrestling sections and the amount of time & preparation for just that small size of an event is major. I can’t even phantom what it takes to do what Racer Productions and all have to do to get it together and then have it run as well as they do. Hats off to all that made this past weekend very special. My utmost thanks to Rita Coombs and family for another wonderful family get together… The personal family and our MX family. The smiles and excitement came from many attendees with the events right down to the totally awesome fireworks on Saturday night. They started and kept coming and coming. A couple finales and they still kept coming. The children and others oooo’d and ah’d thru out the full beautiful spectacle. What a total show Rita and Company put on this past weekend. Thank you!

CAMERA NEWS…… I would like to thank you all again in your wonderful contributions to the purchase of a new camera. I have received more contributions since PVR to add to that wonderful beginning. Jack Mills, The Chapman family and Three Rivers Auto Glass (Dennis Toth) have also made a great contribution. The end is in sight… I have been shopping on line and found what would be good to purchase. This is still very amazing to me, thank you… Always In Memory of Aaron #98, Arlene

~ aaron & babe - TOGETHER AGAIN! ~

What a wonderful 3 days at Steel City so much to talk about and sharing some pictures with you. Kris and I will start on them in the morning just not up to it at this time. We knew that when we left Thursday that are return could possibly bring the loss of our wonderful beagle "Babe". My Jennifer took wonderful care of her on our absence but her health gave out this morning and Babe went to be with Aaron. I told Aaron that he could not have her yet. We still needed her presence and love that she gave fully every day. She was still a hold on one of the many things that Aaron loved. Losing her was another thing of Aaron's. We will miss the constant wiggle that her tail would bring to her body, the warmth of her smooth warm head and all of the love that she gave. I know that Aaron will take good care of her.

~PVR PRO AM/MDRA AUGUST 24 2008 ~

A Class racing at its best today at PVR. With 32 A class riders mixing it up in 4 different motos, Brian Shuckhart took 3 out of 4 of the moto's today. Brian battled it out with Ashley Woskob and Ben Ritter in all four of the motos.
Short week with Steel City coming up.. My camera must have felt it for we were unable to take too many pictures last Sunday. The galleries will not be as usual but have afew more that Kris and I will try and get up.

Great racing today in all of the classes. Many new names and numbers where in attendance with the MDRA and their series. Kris and I will be getting afew pictures up before we head for Steel City.

A note here on the future camera that you all have had a great part in getting. My old camera must know that I am alittle fed up with it and gave me many fits today. The two positions that I have used for the past 2 years would not work for me at all today. So to get some pictures today I used a different position and came home with MANY crummy pictures. They are just not what I like BUT they will have to do at this time. Sorry about the poor photos....... but again you guys make all the pictures look great.

I head back to school in the morning and Kristin will be taking over getting some pictures up on the site. Not many but some shots of a few of the classes.

Have a great week and see you at Steel City.

~TEAM GREEN PA STATE MX CHAMPIONSHIP RND 2 - PVR - AUG. 17~

What an awesome day at PVR. There was great racing in all of the 23 moto's. Darryn Durham was mixing it up with the talented A riders after his Championship run at Loretta Lynn's. Even took a sweet picture coming up out of the pond area. Roy Holt was back in that A Class after his qualifying at Unidilla. So good to see him back and racing.

The day had an awesome event that took place, with the thoughtfulness of a very special young man. This young man has listened to me over most of this years racing season talk about the difficulty I am having with my camera. It does take pictures no doubt, but with the error that I get at crucial times has brought out most frustrating times. Getting a new camera was diffinetly something needed in the very near future but of course funds make the timing uncertain. This young man wanted to help so on his own he set out to take donations to help in the purchase of a new camera. Alex Odell today with family and friends presented to me a beautiful card full of names and an envelope full of donations to do just that. WOW! I'm overwhelmed with all of your kindness. I love taking pictures of you riders and getting them up for you to view. Just knowing that you all visit the site to check things out has been very fulfilling for "The Lantzers". I'm still overwhelmed with this wonderful gift, and the kindness of you all. Alex you are such a very special young man. Your friendship that we have is very special to me. Thank you, and I promise that I will NEVER miss your hole shots ever again. (error 99) I will be in search for the right camera and lens and hope to have it at an up and coming race soon. THANK YOU ALL FOR THIS GIFT WHICH ADDS TO THE GIFT OF YOUR FRIENDSHIPS THAT WE LOVE SO MUCH.

TEAM GREEN PA STATE MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RND 1

MEMORY LANE - BROWNSVILLE
My oldest daughter Jennifer went to one of Aaron's races at the Brownsville MX track back in 99, and took pictures of Aaron riding and some track pictures as well. Jenn didn't get these pictures developed untill 2006 mainly knowing that there was pictures of Aaron on it which made it hard to do. She finally developed them and what nice treasures they are. A few of Aaron on his bike and playing with his best friend Babe the Beagle. Track pictures of riders waiting for their turn at practice. Good memories there... Broc Hepler and Adam Musgrove going at it out on the track. (85's) Brandon Bradley moving to the A Class and fitting in very well. CJ Coffield his first big race was at Brownsville, he told Doug after his moto that he needed a faster bike. Mary Yezek being the wonderful person at sign ups to my boy. Henry Cominsky riding and visiting. So many good memories, and some not so good (Aaron broke his collar bone last race of the State Championship Series)..... I miss those days.....

See you at PVR!
