-HIGH POINT RACEWAY- (7.5.09)

Monday and lots of great racing pictures to view and which ones to add to the main page. What a wonderful trip to the "Point" and the 4th of July! In showing up out at High Point Saturday evening I didn't expect too many in coming early to camp out for Sundays race. It was the 4th of July and many families had events that they were attending. Getting there an hour before the gates opened I headed up the hill to look at the track and again found heaven. Total slience except the many birds doing what they do and the wind coming off the track at times nearly blowing me off the bleachers. A mom and baby groundhog that live under the first tunnel jump didn't know that I was there as they had their supper of grass. (I heard that Willard who is very fast jumped one of them on that same tunnel jump, but the ground hog was faster) What a site to behold. The track is ready,(needing some water) but most of the banners of the National still around the track with all of the color that they have. Even in the nautral silence you can still hear and feel the presence of racing present and past. I can see even just afew weeks ago at regionals a Davey Yezek in much pain still out on the track going off the gate and doing what he does so well with his talent, getting it done. I can see Ricky and James, Travis and his spark plug problem, Shuckhart qualifing, rain and mud, a full moon and watching from across the track images of a movie with Dave Coombs Sr. in the quansit hut, Aaron going down after the finish line...... so many memories. Those are just a peak in what I just remember, and for you others that have a treasure chest of years of memories I applaud you. Davey Yezek could write a book of all of his visits to "The Point". Maybe one of these evenings we can sit around the camp fire and have all of you vets share some of those memories.. Speaking of sitting around a campfire, we actually did not have one Saturday nite but we did have some awesome live music. Bernie, Scott and Mr. Howard had a "Jam Session", WOW... it was totally awesome. Quitars, fiddle and the Motorcross song from Bernie, fireworks going off over the track and in near by communities. IT WAS A GREAT 4TH OF JULY EVENING!
Waking up AGAIN to a cloudy sky and needing a sweatshirt is getting old but the skies finally cleared and the sun came to visit. Yes it got warm and the track got dry. Watering was done maybe not as often as it could have been and my camera was having a freak attack on what to focus on the rider or the dust but we survived. I wanted to get around to some different areas of the track and away from my normal spots. With the sun keeping me from some distant areas I did get some other shots. Kristin took over her Dads camera and got some great shots from over the top of the fence up on the big sweeper. (she needs to do that more often for they are great.)
It was a full day of great racing and great friends. What a wonderful group of MXERS. It's hard for me to leave "The Point", and everything that it brings. But getting home and looking at the pictures of the day again overwhelms me of what Aaron left us. His love of the sport and the love that we receive from all of you... (oh dear getting emotional here.... better get to the pictures) Have a great week.... ALWAYS IN MEMORY OF AARON #98, ARLENE
