~ MEMORIAL DAY - ROARING KNOB RACEWAY RND 7~

~ UPDATE ON RAY NIEBELS MUD BABY FROM ROARING KNOB - AT HOME IN THE LANTZERS BUSHES ~

Yes he is looking rather sad, but we had lots of rain this week. You can look at last weeks picture of baby at the bottom of this page....

~ MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ~
Seems strange not to be sitting out at High Point for the National. Where else would any MX lover be on Memorial Day weekend at The Point of course. Well since it's change last year we all have excepted the change and look forward to Fathers Day at The Point.... But oh those memories of High Point on Memorial Day weekend.
Instead we find our selves heading out on old Route 40, The National Pike, flags flying everywhere and headed to Roaring Knob to see friends and great motocross racing. Route 40 is the National Pike Road (the Nemacolin Path, Braddock's Road). Full of our country and county history. General Braddock, George Washington and their men traveled this road during the Revolutionary War. Actually General Braddock died July 1755 near this road where his men buried him by orders from General Washington. When the road was being worked on in 1804 they found the remains of General Braddock. His remains now lie in the burial ground just off of Route 40. Then just down the road you find Fort Necessity were George Washington had his defeat of the Indians and the French in 1755. The National Pike road has much more history over its nearly 200 years, but I like the history from the 1700's to around 1850.
Rain came to the Knob Saturday night and helped with the watering, of course things can't be perfect and there was maybe too much of the heavenly moisture in some places but it soon balanced out on most of the track. The bikes where definitely muddy after practice and the power washers were very busy. I received a gift from Ray Niebel at days end, Rays Mud Baby, major smile from me to you Ray. The moto's started out with the Open A & B. Smaller groups than we have seen in some of the past races. Still filled with very talented riders. The A Class had Willard and Shuckhart going at it in both classes. It was very nice to see Brian Shuckhart's brother Bobby back racing in the 250B class. Bobby goes back to lots of great memories of his racing some years ago. Bobby was a rider who was fast and one to be reckoned with out on the track.
The rain stayed away thru most of the first motos then it came down during the first rounds of the second motos. Came hard and then left for awhile. The thunder boomers could be heard near the last 3 or 4 motos of the day and everyone knew that we had better get it over. The 250 A & B had rain coming down but it didn't slow the riders down too much.
Good day at the Knob, great riding and great friends. A tribute to Braddock and Washington on the way up and back, and to all of the brave and unselfish men and women over the years that gave their all for many of the freedoms that we all share today. Have a great Memorial Day.
