~ STEEL CITY LUCAS OIL PRO MOTOCROSS ~

~ WEEKEND @ STEEL CITY ~

Great weekend with family and friends at Steel City. Under the threat of Isacc all weekend he didn't visit much. Always in the back of our minds that it was coming. Some rain late Saturday afternoon, but not a drop did I hear on the rough of the trailer. SO the moist mud came from a couple of pretty good showers late Saturday. The bikes were pretty ugly looking after the first few practice moto's for Amateur days. Oh, I got to Sunday and completely skipped Friday and Saturday. Actually we started out on Thursday and made it to the line waiting to get in placing 2nd. Yes 2nd only to Ed. Ken made it not too long after for 3rd. So the waiting was on. It was great just to sit read a book and magazines, drinking sweet tea and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The fields were groomed with perfection, people working everywhere getting the finishing touches on this great event. The line increased as the day went by and Rita & Tim greated all of us around 4:00. Reaching our point of interest for our pits was no problem. Now the building of our home for the next 4 days. Takes some time but after the many years of doing it the task is not that bad. Well except if you don't put all of two tents poles in the same bag and then not remember which ones goes where. WOW, what a mess that was. Had it up then had it down. Had the long poles and then the short. Yes Jerry and I could have made a reality TV show for the two carziest old people putting up a tent. BUT we pushed on and it finally made it almost correct standing. No issues there for that was Jerry's humble home and I got the trailer. Friday came with many coming in overnight and the road was busy as can be Friday morning. Friday was a day of sitting up pit areas and practice for the amateur riders. Families coming in for the events and could not wait till Kristin and Bryan arrived. It was late when they arrived but they were there and all was well. Jerry fixed ribs for Erick and we enjoyed them as well. Sat around the camp fire, which was not needed but have to have one. Lights all around the track which made such a beautiful sight. Oh yes, did I mention the moon, it was huge over Steel City. Lots of catching up with friends and talking MX of course. Saturday morning came, track was ready to go and the big rigs came rolling in. Qualifing was on and did we ever have a group of riders - OH YES. 450'S - SHANE DURHAM, CHARLES BRIGHT, TY NEWCOME, BILLY KIBLER, DYLAN SLUSSER, BROC STREIT - 250's - MICHAEL MCDADE, MIKE FOLWER, STEVIE ROMAN AND DANIEL LIPPMAN. nOW HOW ABOUT THAT LIST. Racing is fast and just 2 times to keep out of the LCQ. Shane Durham, Michael McDade and Steve Roman made it to their mains. Dylan had a fantastic run and missed the LCQ by one spot. UNBELIEVABLE, he was right on the guy going up into theroad side of the big jump but going into the turn it seemed from where we were the guy did one of those brake checks. Dylan was hauling and the other rider knew it. Just enough to keep Dylan from getting around him before the checkers. Great racing Dylan! Daniel Lippman also had some great lap times but was also off a few spots. Not sure of all the riders and there times. Lots of action that these riders had and we will be talking about for a long time. Michael McDade had a great 2nd moto start right up there in front of Roczen. Bumping handle bars for sure as they headed down into the center of the track before the table tops toward the pond. The moto's got almost thru then a small shower came and made a difference out there on the track for sure. All was over and the place cleared out except for the riders that were going to ride amateur day on Sunday. Quiet evening and for sure we needed the rest. Sunday morning came found out as we stepped out that someone who stayed overnight helped themselves to our propane tank for our grill. GEEZ, what a jerk. We have had many things over our lives together stolen and it is such a violation that one feels. So I hope you really needed the tank, it has an Aaron sticker on it, instant carma is coming your way! We took down our pits early Sunday and moved over to the other side for the amateur racing. I must say by doing that it took what energy that I had left. Had the shakes and just exhausted. But headed down on the track for the moto's. Good to be back in familiar areas, over cast which is NOT good for photos and you fast riders. Started out good but my emergy just was not cooperating and I started worring that I might not make it back up out of the bottom. So headed slowly to the top around last moto's. I didn't make the 2nd rounds, sorry riders, I just didn't have it. BUT... what a great weekend, so many wonderful friends stopping by the pit area. Good to see Danny and Larry McAdoo, Zane Perry, Ryan Coleman, Dave Plavi, Kirk Hines, David Grimes, Ian Mccue, Rob McCoy, Rob and Stacy Armstrong and their beautiful children, Aaron and Riley. Allan Bonamo and his sons Chase and Broc, Fireman Jim, Neal Hart, wow was it an interesting time with our old friend Neal. He is one of the hole shot kings of Steel City back in the day. Probably would do it again. It's late afternoon Monday and the weekend has come and gone. I want to thank the Coombs family for their abilities to get such a fantastic event together so that we all can come and enjoy each other in the sport that we all love. You riders and families it wouldn't be what it is with out all of you. Thank you for sharing this sport.

Okay, time to get some pictures up.
