~ LORETTA LYNN'S 2010 NOW HISTORY ~

CONGRATS TO ALL OF THE PAMX RIDERS... SO PROUD OF YOU ALL!
~ VIRGINIA "MAE" STORY ~
So many great people that we meet at MX Events. They could be ones at home or in Tennessee. Jerry and I have only been to three Loretta's as of this year and as far as we are concerned we do not want to miss any more. On our trip home we didn't have the radio on once. We just had so much to tell each other of the wonderful event, the racing and the people that we observered.
One person that I meet this year was a lady named "Mae". I like to start my picture taking down toward the back of the track, just to get the feel of the track and the riders. So many helpers I see from back there making sure the track is the best that it can be. Also ready to do what they need to do. In that section of the track I have counted at least five flag persons. Not that our flag people at thome do not do a great job, but these flaggers are ready to help the rider, clear the track, look out for odd situations and help each other out there. The last couple of years that I have been down there a flag lady has been in the same area working. I would say that we are somewhat the same age and I have watched her in lots of different situations doing her job well. In between classes the flaggers take care of things before the next class comes up.. On one of those occassions this lady past by me while I was seeking shelter under an ez-up. We struck up a conversation of how hot and humid it was. She was telling me about Loretta's of the past and that this was her 29th year working there at the track. WOW... I got so excited that I didn't know what to ask first. But Mae started telling me about how the track was layed out different years and how much she loved working for Dave Coombs. Telling me about his kindness, the mud and some new jumps that she thought were just too big, and how she was going to cover them. One year she was ill and could not sit in her flag position but was still at the track. Dave asked her what they were going to do with out her there... Things would just not be the same.
Tracks have names that go with different parts of the track. At High Point there is Bradshaw Blvd and at Loretta's I have heard the announcer saying that the riders are back in Storyland. Actually it looks like a storybook land area with the beautiful trees and shadows. So I just thought that was why they called it that. When I was talking to this very kind lady we exchanged names and she told me that they call her "Mae", short for Virginia. The she told me her full name, Virginia "Mae" Story. How Awesome! Thats why it's story land...... Her family has been there from the beginning and are still there today. Loves what they do and take pride in being a part of this wonderful event all of these years. Mae said that she misses Dave Coombs very much. The first year that he was not there she said was very hard being there with out him, and still misses him to this day. I would have loved to listen to more of her memories but she had her duty to take care of. We were not able to speak more than just a big smile at each other as we passed by the rest of the week. StoryLand has new meaning for me... hats off to you "Mae" Story and your family.

If you love Motocross and enjoy watching the races, or have a rider with the drive of competition you will love Loretta's. What an incredible event to be apart of or watch. If they had to do it all over again this week I would be there in a heart beat. Exhausting, hot, early morning moto's, - like 7:30 - standing, lots of walking and standing. Class after class goes off like clock work. Dozers hit the start area after each start, water trucks give the track a spray of water nearly every moto, flag helpers clear any unwanted articles off the track, and the line of spectators fills the edge of the track.
We had a PAMX rider/riders in nearly every class. So that kept me hopping thru out the day. I have never in my life drank so much water, or sweat it all out either. Tuesday was a hot day and I spent the day down in the Story Land part of the track. Eighteen motos went thru on the first day.
I generally get totally overwhelmed when I get home and start looking at all of the pictures of the vent and the riders. So overwhelmed that I can't seem to get them all up. So I going to try and follow thru with galleries of each day that will cover the Misc pictures that Jerry takes down at the gates and my pictures of the moto's. I hope this works for you riders are incredible. Your dedication in just getting to Loretta's is a great accomplishment just in its self.
